【Jumpstarter Interview】Preparing for difficulties — Joe Kwan

眾籌是創業集資「捷徑」,看似輕易,背後困難重重。80後的關祖堯(Joe)做過3次眾籌,每次都要花一年時間籌備,還要擔心達不到預期金額,期間承受了很大的心理壓力。可惜的是,縱使首次眾籌成功,惟因生產計算錯誤,結果未能賺取分毫。話雖如此,眾籌卻令世界的投資者認識到他的產品,能夠在短時間「測試水溫」,開展契機,令他知道產品是否吸睛,是否有客戶願意投資。
 
Joe是一位平面及產品設計師,從事平面設計約9年。在3年多前,他想將創作思維投放於商業市場,方法就是創立一門生意,故他與拍檔着手創立手錶品牌。初期,先做產品開發等範疇,但在一年後,他發現資金所餘無幾,所以希望透過眾籌集資,用作營銷及產品開發之用。

惟他未有料到,眾籌是要克服不少難題。「先後做了三次眾籌,每次都很困難。不知情的人,以為在30天內,便可輕易籌得百多萬元。但其實我需要事先用一年時間作準備功夫,還要時刻憂慮籌集的資金不達標。」可惜的是,他的第一次眾籌雖然成功,但因生產計算錯誤,超出預算,未能賺錢。
 
雖說眾籌過程艱辛,但Joe坦言當中亦有好處。「可以很快知道用家反應,原來,真的有人會喜歡我的設計!」他興奮地說:「這不止是香港市場,而是來自全世界!沒想過這麼快可以接觸到外地客戶。當中較深刻的,是一位來自北非客戶的電郵。此外,一位銀行家收到我的手錶後,很有心地給予電郵回饋,令我深深感受到,在世界某個角落,原來是有人欣賞我的理念。對我來說,這些都是很重要的精神支持。」

 
除資金外,創業還會經常遇到不同挑戰,令Joe不時想過放棄。「初初營運時,收入較受僱工作時低。每天都想著,還要多久才可捱過這段日子?」但他明白到,追求夢想,需要窮一生的精力。「要很有耐性去追求夢想,而夢想不是短期內賺取可觀收入,而是一份屬於自己的成就感。」
 
他特別提醒初業人士,要創業,千萬不要只看當時的潮流趨勢,因為當你正式開始時,可能要經歷一年或兩年,研發產品的速度,亦難比大公司快,「應該選擇自己喜歡,而又擅長的範疇,才容易成功。」
